drawing challenge

This weeks host of the drawing challenge is Patrice and her theme is "upside down" with the question "what turns your world upside down?" For this week I just can't decide what to answer or which way to take it… My first thought -of course- was that I immediately thought about the really bad things that can happen to you, like loosing someone. Which really turns your world upside down, or in my case when I lost my mother: after 3 months it just hit me: the world keeps spinning… Then I broke down, nothing changes, I'm still doing what I have to do and so is the rest of the world, like nothing happened. But this does not happened on a daily bases ( really, it shouldn't!) and what I realized a while ago while talking to my sister because she has the same "problem". We both get really in stress if someone or something messes with our plans. That can be something little, like someone at work is sick and you have to fill in, which means I can't draw, which means there goes my week-planner. Nothing big, nothing with world troubles but I HATE THAT! That can even happen to me if the internet does not work for just one morning, but if I planned to do things where I need the internet, my world is Upside Down. Do you get it? I try to take that stuff an easier way but I find that very hard. So I choose a little painting which I made in 2010. I'm hanging upside down and my sister is standing next to me. My dad took pictures of us when we were children and I made paintings out of them. What I want to say I think is this: if your world is upside down, I hope that someone is right there next to you to catch you…

how it went this time...

I had a very busy weekend with the art-tour, I had to be there myself all the time.  But that was a good thing! First of all talk to people, answering questions about my work and it's interesting what some people see in it... I like the picture above because of the matching flowers in the vase and the little lamp above my painting. It just looks like it belonged there. And second of all it was good to be there, because my jewelery was also there and I sold a lot;-) which was nice. The picture below shows a brooch which I made as a test. I wasn't sure about it, but it was the first thing I sold. So now I'm thinking to make some more and put it in my shop. I wish you al a good week and maybe I'll see you this weekend at the next drawing challenge, host of this week is Patrice!

let's not have a breakdown

As you can see: the first "pippi-heads"are ready and I'm already working on the next ones. And now I have a deadline when they should be ready and that's in about 3 weeks. Last week I got an email that I can take part in the "Kunsttour (Arttour) Maastricht". In that weekend you can enjoy contemporary art, design, sound and new media art forms in and surrounding the city of Maastricht. More than 200 artists will exhibit their work across 60 locations, such as artistic breeding grounds, galleries, studios and art institutions. And I want to show the pippi-heads as wel so I have to work hard!

your favourite girl

So...... This is the new project I wanted you to tell about. I started to make small paintings (40 x 40 cm) with only the head of "Pippi". In every painting she has a different expression on her face. I want to make at least 16 of them, but maybe it will grow to a project I can always work on so I can cover a whole room with them. We will see, maybe I'll get bored by the time I paint number 4... 
Soon I'll post the first ones that are ready.

high heels clippin

I drew this very fashionable bunny-girl: with tight jeans and high heels. I think the computer drawing works better than the painting, although the elephants bring something funny and weird to it.
But maybe she is not that cool, and tells her pose another story...

float away

I made another small painting after a computer drawing. The drawing was actually used on an invitation for an exhibition. I still like it.

go somewhere breezy

Here is another small painting of a rabbit-girl. I finished it today and I quit like it at the moment to make such smalls works. Just create a small world and think about nothing and let the colour take over. I like the birds in the background. The picture below shows the original computer drawing, I think I made that one in 2009.

dum-ditty-dance (part 2)

Last week I posted a computer drawing of mine. I was thinking about making a painting out of the drawing.
I did and this is the result. It's a small painting, 24 x 18 cm. Of course it's different then a computer drawing, but I quite like this one as well.

it's time to save your world

So I made another series of small paintings. I don't think I will continue this experiment. I made now 4 series and I'm still not convinced by them... Maybe I'll try to paint some of my sketches on this 18 x 24 cm size.

Working on some more small paintings and some sketches. Just drawing and painting and it makes me happy!

My experiment continues: another three paintings with almost the same composition. I still don`t know what to think about the small paintings...

waiting for a cloud

I continue with my experiment to make smaller paintings ( 18 x 24 cm, read my post "let's take life nice and easy" earlier this month). I try to make three paintings of the same composition but they are slightly different from each other. I already did this composition in a bigger painting (sitting on the fence, 150 x 100 cm) which you can find on my website.

I would like to make smaller work, but I find it difficult to work so small. My "bigger" work is standing all over my house and they take so much space. I think I just have to get used to the smaller work...
