Requiem for a dream

A few days ago a saw the movie " Requiem for a dream". It is a film directed by Darren Aronofsky (the one from "black swan"). I was really impressed of the music, the scenes and the cuts he made. The film depicts different forms of addiction, leading to the characters’ imprisonment in a world of delusion and reckless desperation that is subsequently overtaken and devastated by reality. "Requiem for a dream" charts four seasons in the lives of Sara Goldfarb, her son Harry, Harry’s girlfriend Marion Silver, and Harry’s friend Tyrone C. Love. Each character is ultimately destroyed by addiction and self-delusion.
Lost in misery, each character curls into a fetal position.
If you're into movies, you should watch this one!

amsterdamned

I was in Amsterdam this weekend, unfortunatly is was raining but it was still very nice. There are so much nice shops with interesting and very creative windows. Of course they are often blocked by the typical dutch bikes.

A completely useless fact: "amsterdamned" is a dutch movie (1988) by Dick Maas about a mysterious diver hiding in Amsterdam's canal system embarks on a rampage of gruesome murders, terrifying city officials and leaving few clues for the city's best detective, who doesn't suspect that both his new girlfriend and twelve-year-old daughter may be closer than he is to finding the killer.

Oh, and I met some inspiring old, dutch painters ;-)

black swan

Did anyone see the movie Black Swan? It's now in cinema's in The Netherlands. I quess you heard about it, it's so present in the media. But if not, it's about a ballet dancer who wins the lead in "Swan Lake" and is perfect for the role of the delicate White Swan - Princess Odette - but slowly loses her mind as she becomes more and more like Odette's evil sister, Odile, the Black Swan.
I wanted to be a ballet dancer wenn I was younger, but at the age of sixteen had a complication at my knee  and surgery followed. Bye bye dream! But after seeing this movie I guess I can be glad it didn't work out, haha. If you like ballet you would probably like this movie. I especially liked the dark scene's of the black swan. These drawings are my version of the swan.

nothing personal

A few days ago I watched the movie "nothing personal" by Urszula Antoniak. I think that this movie has some really strong images/stills in it. Especially the one I try to draw in the picture above. But you probably have to know what happens in this scene... (you will have to see it).

The movie is about Anne, she is alone in her empty flat, from her window she observes the people passing by who nervously snatch up the personal belongings and pieces of furniture she has put out on the pavement. Her final gesture of taking a ring off her finger signals she is leaving her previous life in Holland behind. She goes to Ireland, where she chooses to lead a solitary, wandering existence, striding through the austere landscapes of Connemara. During her travels, she discovers a house that is home to a hermit, Martin.
He proposes her to work for him in exchange of food. She agrees but on one condition: there will be no personal contact between them, just work. Soon the two of them become curious about each other and want both: to keep their 'nothing personal' deal and to break it. He knows that breaking the deal and becoming personal may result in her leaving the house. For her, showing any interest in him will equal compromising her radical freedom, which she defines as staying alone and refusing contact with people.

Below a picture of the original film poster and also the still I tried to draw...
