turning into objects

Since I'm making these new drawings I'm thinking about how I should present or hang them. I didn't really like it when I just put them on the wall. I wasn't happy with it that way. So now I came up with the idea to make them a bit more "heavy", give them a bit more volume. I pinned them onto wood and now they turned more into an object which I really like because I also work a bit with this theme of women being objects. And I like the way the threads are now hanging. In the picture below you can see the pins better that I used.

I wish you all a nice weekend and thank you for your comments on my work. It really helps me, especially when I read something that some of you see in it and that I didn't mentioned. That shows me that some of my intentions are seen!

drawing challenge

This weeks host for the Dc is Kristen and her theme is "connection". As you might have noticed I like to draw people  ;-) so I'm mostly interested in connections between people. And the weird thing is that I not thought of the deeply connection you can have with someone but that sometimes you are just disconnected for a while. Even if you belong together you feel that the other one is on a different level.

It makes me feel uncomfortable if I notice this with strangers. You see two people, they belong together but they are not connected at all. I don't mean the ones who are having a fight, that is a different story. It looks like they are on a different planet, no threads of connection, but still….

For -I hope some more positive than mine- connections please visit the wonderful blog of Kristen! Have a good weekend!

drawing challenge

This weeks host for the drawing challenge is the lovely Nadine and her theme is "hair".  A wild guess: I'm not the only girl who is not at all happy with her hair. My hair is very thin and boring, it just "hangs" there. It doesn't matter if I go to the hairdresser, one day later it is just as bad. The only time I was happy with my hair were the 4 years that I had dreadlocks. Finally: my hair had volume!!! It still was a lot of work to make them look nice for such a long time but it was worth it. My ultimate wish is that I want curls and of course the one with curls straighten them out.

The other thing is that I'm also interested in the (mostly) female issues about hair, like Nadine already said "we cut it off rigorously in places where we really don't want it". Why do we do that? For ourselves or for our partners, because society at one point said we need to because a woman with hair on her legs/arms/vagina doesn't look good, sweet or nice? I found a really interesting blog about this theme. A girl started a blog called "Bare To Bush" where she documented the regrowth of her body hair after shaving most of it off. During that regrowth she realized that she has a lot to say about bodies and body images. I think this blog is not for every one but you should take a look!

For some more hair please check out the wonderful TinyWoolf blog!

little, bright things

A few weeks ago I told you here about a test with vintage, crochet coasters. I really liked it to turn these old things into something new. So I tried something different with one that was a little bit bigger. I made a lamp! And I'm really happy with it. I have to put another light-bulb in it and maybe a little plastic bird. From a distance it looks like a bird-cage. But I'm not sure if the bunny on my painting likes it…

drawing challenge

This weeks host for the drawing challenge is Ariane and her theme is "vase".  My feeling immediately with this theme was: I love vases! I just bought a vintage one which I really like. But my problem is to put flowers in them. The first thing is that I like flowers but I find it a bit sad to put them inside in water because they have to be outside, to grow in nature. So I don't buy them myself very often. I like to plant  seeds though and grow them myself. But once in a while someone buys me flowers and then I have this second problem and that is why I made this drawing. I can't seem to put in flowers nicely in vases! The flowers are to big, to small or the vase is to big or to small. To little flowers for my vase, to many flowers to fit in the vase and so on. It looks sad or just to a bit okay. The best thing is when someone buys me flowers and they are already in a vase, haha, perfect! So that is what the drawing is about: a big vase with to little flowers. Not in a nice design way which you see sometimes, but in a "I try but I can't help myself" way.

For more vases go to the blog of Ariane, she makes the most wonderful pictures!

well? part II

I quite get the hang of it now. Wish you all good week and thanks for your comments on my last post and saying what you think of these new drawings. And yes, if I could I also would like to make them bigger but I don't have the space and I already have problems where to put all my my large "pippi"drawings. But on the other hand I like it that you have to take a closer look to see what is going on here….

well?

What do you think? First piece in this new series is ready. It's difficult to take a good picture, just to be sure: the words are "I said don't worry it's not going to hurt". I'm not sure about the thread, if I should leave it that way. I think I decide that when I made some more of these drawings.
I wish you all a good start in this new week!

if you show you show

I don't like to celebrate valentine, I think it is to commercial and it is much more a surprise if you get a gift or card by surprise and not on an specific date (accept for your birthday of course ;-)  And in the shops you see this weird mix of sweet stuff you can buy, mostly with cute bears or other animals or the sexy things for the ladies. It gets really strange if you see them mixed together… Maybe you have noticed that I don't draw a lot of cute bears so I go for the sexy lady. Whatever you do today or this weekend, I hope you enjoy yourself, valentine or not!

in the swing of things

Last weekend an idea for a new series of drawings popped into my head and since then I have been working on them. I love that feeling when you get that energy boost of trying something new, that you are all excited by yourself. It is even better when that idea turns out the way you want it to be! Lately I wasn't sure which way I wanted my drawings to go. Every now and then I get this feeling. I could continue to make those large drawings with pencil of the girls with weapons and I still love those but I get bored. I could make more but why? Then I tried the drawings with ink but I wasn't completely happy with those. I thought if I make some more then maybe…. I felt like I was floating between things. And now I can't stop working! The drawings are a combination of a printed computer-drawing where I stitch words onto. Both things take some time doing. As you can see I kept the color red, haha! Normally I get doubts between drawing number 6 and 12 but lets not think about that for now, lets see were this is going!

drawing challenge

This weeks host for the drawing challenge is my wonderful blog-friend Stefanie and her theme is "daily project". I find those kind of projects great and every year I think to myself that I should start one to, but at the same time I'm scared that I can't keep it up for one year. This year I didn't start it because so much was going one with moving to another city and that sort of stuff, I did not know where to find the time for it. But for the last two weeks I had a daily project which I introduced to you HERE. It turned out to be a bit more work so I'm still working on my "thread-thingies". Not everyday anymore, but bit by bit now. I wanted to see how it looked on our door in the hallway so that's is why I worked on it for every day. Now I can slowly finish it and do something else in between. I made one big one for the door on the other side of the hallway:

as silly as fun

I feel a bit like this drawing this week: funny and weird but also sort of angry… Well, just let it be for now, hope the frogs make you smile (I had those as a kid now I think of it;-) Hope you have a good week!

that's me

I while ago I was ask by "Sis and So" if I wanted to talk about what I do. They give creative (dutch) people who started a business, webshop or make things the opportunity to talk about that and they post it on their blog. They started this project and the goal is to post every day for one year a new post. You also have to send them a picture of you…. I don't do that often, I mostly send a drawing of myself, haha! But that would be to different from the other people who take part. So I managed to found a way to show something of myself… So this saturday it is my turn on the blog, you can click HERE but unfortunately it is only in dutch. So I give you something extra: some of the pictures who didn't make it and were you can see some more of me and my workplace. Have a good weekend!

like a thread

So this weekend I started something new. A test with some vintage, crotchet coasters (if that is the correct word…) You know: you can use them for your coffee-table or so,  you find them mostly in older peoples home ;-) I prepared them with wallpaper glue so they can't bend anymore. I let them dry and then started to decorate them with thread and yarn. It is a little project for our new home, but I also got some inspiration for my own work. Lets see….maybe…this turned out to be a bit more work then I thought, as always. So you have to wait for the final results, have a good week all of you!

back to work!

My studio is kind of ready so I can start drawing again, I feel kind of rusty, haha! So lets start with something I know: girls and bunnies ;-) And at the same time some new designs for pendants and necklaces for my shop.

Thank you for your sweet comments on my last two post, it really means a lot to me!

drawing challenge

The first drawing challenge of this new year and it is hosted by Tammie Lee and her theme is "numen": "the spirit or divine power presiding over a thing or place, or devine presence referring to the idea of magical power residing in an object or place".

A perfect theme for me to start this year! I always collected things, objects, stones or stuff that people made for me, I surround myself with them. I feel protected by them and I hope that they give me strength. They make me feel safe. To have stones or plants in my home gives me the feeling of the power that nature has, the beauty of it. And because I moved to a new place, me and my boyfriend are searching for a commination of our "spirits", to combine our little things were we find magic in. Now I think of it, that went really easy, to find places for our things and let them be next to each other. Like in the picture above. Between the stones you can see small woman made out of clay. I made them years ago for a project. These were not not the ones I used, but I kept them because they give me the felling of power-woman, like mother earth, ha!

The next picture is in my studio. It's a combination of the things I made and a drawing that Roberto made for me which is very dear to me. I look at it if a doubt myself as an artist and it makes me smile that someone who I only met through blogin made something for me, it is a positive vibe!

The last picture I like to show you are real spirits, at least I hope so ;-) They are from Finland, Africa, Greenland and again Africa. They were all gifts to me from my parents and sister. I hope they do get along, standing so close to each other. I hope their powers work together...

This time no drawing but a sneak-peak into my home. This theme fits so well in the situation that I'm in right now that I decided not to draw for ones.

in memory...

...of my beautiful mother. This year your lost seems even harder, maybe because of the changes in my life which I can not share with you. All I can do is think of you, bring you flowers or light a candle, make you a drawing.

I'm back!

I hope you all had a good start in the new year! Mine was pretty busy and exciting. For one week I'm now living in my new home, we are kind of settled in. My little studio is now ready to work in, my computer is running again and my first painting is up on the wall. We have still some small things do to, to fix and to decorate but we have time to do that. I try to find the time to post again here, to draw and to comment on your blogs. Maybe that will also take some time and maybe I'll show you some more of our decoration skills ;-) A new beginning this is!

goodbye for a while

Finally it is going to happen: my boyfriend and I are moving in together! After a lot of stress we found a nice place to live and I've been busy packing my things.  So it is a busy and exiting start in the new year. I'm ready to go now and I'll be back as soon as possible. It will take a while before everything has been set up,  get my computer started and to start drawing again. I hope you will be patience with me and that I'll see you back here very soon. Thank you for the last year: your comments and support on my work and new ideas. That you take the time to write your thoughts when I doubt myself or my work. It truly means a lot to me! See you soon my friends, I'll catch up soon!

And I wish you all the very best for 2014, may it be a great year!
