Oh nice, warm april sun were are you? I don't like complaining to much about the weather but now even I start doing that. It's much to cold over here for this time of the year, much to grey and no tulips yet. Spring is late and for now she's only inside my home.

Spunk Update

I haven't posted a while about Atelier Spunk. I don't know if you remember: I started to make jewellery. Lately I get all kinds of new ideas to make, which makes it very fun to keep Spunk going. I have to try a lot to see if it works, for example the medallions where the illustrations are covered in casting resin. It's a bit frustrating sometimes but of course the feeling you get when it works, rules!
And I'm also developing stuff to make it look nice when I sell it: like Spunk's own stamp, price-labels and my own masking tape, which I love (with thanks to Mano for the tipp!).

drawing challenge

This weeks host for the drawing challenge is Norma and her theme is "Egg", which fits perfectly so close before easter!
In the Netherlands we have these small, chocolade eggs in all kinds of flavours: white, dark, white-crisp, white-rasberry, dark-crisp, dark-rasberry, rasberry-caramel and so on and on. I think it's the same in other country's but I'm not sure so I explain it... Each flavour has his own colour where the chocolade is wrapped in. Just dark chocolate is mostly red, but this can be different in another store, which can be very confusing. You think you have your favourite taste, but this shop wrapped the caramel-pineappel in yellow instead of gold. We have really some easter problems over here! I based my drawing on that and let the girl search for her favourite small, chocolate treat...with a lot of concentration!

the way to the sun...

Today my calendar tells me that spring begins. Well, let it begin already I would say! I don't see or feel much of it yet, but there's still hope of course. To say goodbye to winter I show you some picture's of Pollock in the snow. The one on the right was taken last week were we got a lot of snow after some really warm days. Pollock don't really seems to care: he hates rain and wind but he runs in the snow. But I bet he also wants some sun and juicy, green grass!

drawing challenge

This week host for the drawing challenge is Carole and her theme is "Willow".

Everytime I join a challenge and I'm not sure if I understand the theme correctly I google it to be sure. This time I thought about a beautiful drawing of a tree or a picture I could take outside of one the trees over here. But just to be sure I checked my dictionary and then googled the word for some inspiration. And what happend? Well, the first few pages are dominated by this girl Willow Smith, the daughter of Will Smith. I found that very interesting and I wondered about this girl with her always changing hairdo's, fashion statements and songs. How old is she? 12? And she looks already so very grown-up... So I let myself go with a hopefully very fashionable drawing of her ;-)

old habits die hard

I just notice that I always wear pink if I show you a picture of my drawings and I'm in it! mmm.... Well, I finished another one and I thought it's about time that I post another picture were you can see the size, it's been a long time;-) In my mind I already finished this one in Januar which turned out I hadn't so here it is now. And I can tell you that I'm not finished with these girls. I told you about my doubts and then I started to sketch again and I'm not done yet! Just to let you know....

drawing challenge

This weeks host for the drawing challenge is the lovely Patrice and her theme is "moon". I tell you right away that my entry is nothing I made. This is a painting my dad  made. When I saw this weeks theme "moon" I just had to think about my dad and the only thing I could do is show you a painting made by him. I don't know why, everything that has to do with the moon, stars or the universe makes me think of him. He made quite some works with stars and the moon, although I thought it where a lot more, so that was funny... maybe because he used the colour blue a lot? Listen to the dark side of the moon? Has a lot of books of the universe? I don't know...but it just felt wrong to make something myself.

the wonders of my world

This little blackbird is one of them. In some earlier post I already told you that we have a pretty big garden. Every morning I feed the birds at different spots in the garden. Since I've red that blackbirds prefer to eat their food of the ground instead in a nest box I'll put some food on the ground. The same place every morning. Since a couple of months a lady blackbird is already waiting for me, almost every morning. And now she's not scared of me and get's really close. She already jumps to the ground and sits about one meter away from me and waits untill I'm ready. If she's not there in the morning I really miss her. It's a good way to start the day! And I wish all of you a good start in the new week!

...more real somehow.

This is the title of my new big drawing, made after I found an old sketch of the first drawings I wanted to make. I never made this one, because it has two girls in it (obviously...). Because I'm struggling were to take these drawings I really wanted to draw this one. I'm still not sure were to take it from here, but I don't think this is the worst of the drawings until now, haha! I looked trough my other older sketches and somehow I found a few which I think I still want to draw. In my last post about my drawings I asked myself what's the point of making more girls with wapens... the question is still here but I found some sketches which I find interesting to realize. So lets just wait and see. If you want to see all the drawings I made untill now you can check out my website. There're also some pictures were you can see how big they are in "real life".

quite happily

Here are some pictures of my paintings hanging at the school. I totally forgot to take pictures as the exhibition opend, so there would be people in it. Now it looks a bit sad I think, but you can see my paintings very good this way, haha! The corridor is really grey so my paintings works well. There were a lot of people on saturday so I'm quite happy about it. My paintings stay there until the end of June.

so we wait

Is the title of this painting of me from 2010. It's one of my favorites. I like the colour green very much but almost all my work where I used it had just not the results that I wanted. I discovered I find it a hard colour the use. In this one it worked for me and I like the faces of the rabits with their very big ears. This painting is also in the exhibition I told you about. On saturday it will open and I'll tell you more about it next week!

I decided to put some of my things on Pinterest. It feels a bit like cleaning up and ordening my stuff, haha. So now you can find all the different things I make also over here. It's still a small selection but it will grow as well. You can also already find some of my older paintings I told you about in my last post. the truth, the lies

May I introduce to you: my painting "for a second that is" of a serie called "the truth, the lies". I started these paintings of animals in 2009 untill 2011 when the paintings inspired by Pippi began. By the end of 2010 I started this blog, so the last ones I painted just made it to the blog. A lot of these paintings I transported last week to a school nearby. They organize exhibitions in one part of the school and they use the art for their art-classes. The children who go there have the age of 12 till 17 or so and I wonder what they think of my work....children are mostly the most honest, they just say it when they think it's nice or the worst thing they ever saw. Saturdy in a week they have an so called "open day" at the school and a small opening for my paintings as well. I'm looking forward to it and I will post some pictures. And if you like it I'll also post some of these older works: they never had to chance to shine at this blog;-) Let me know what you think!

it's never what you think

So I started another big drawing.... I'm thinking about these drawings a lot lately: should I continue or should they go in another direction? How much drawings of little girls inspired by Pippi Longstocking with wapens can I make? Just to talk myself a little bit down (I'm good at that!). The thing is that I get bored with myself really fast and I surprise myself that I make these drawings now for the last two years. So I was thinking about this and I found a sketch that I made at the very beginning of these drawings. At the time I did'nt want to make this one because it's "different". Now I thought that it might be a new direction...but I don't know how it will turn out. Let's wait and see and I'll keep you posted!

sort things by colour

I'm back! I can't wait to see what happend on your blogs, even it was only a week. That's the proof of how you can get addicted to new media...
Now have to do my laundry, even after a small trip it's possible to make a lot of stuff dirty;-)

full speed baby

I want to wish you all a very nice weekend and a good start in the next week! I'll be away for the next couple of days, visiting the beautiful city Rotterdam. I can't visit a lot of your blogs that week, so sorry for that and hopefully I'll be able to post the next thing by the end of next week. Thank you for the nice comments on my last two blogpost!

flow into silence

For now the snow and the cold are gone... I don't like that because we get rain instead. I like the world when she is white and everything has to slow down a bit. I would like to live Norway, or Sweden. I have this "thing" for those country's but I'm not sure if I would still like it if there is snow and cold for more as 6 months. This drawing is a bit of a "goodbye-winter" (it can of course still come back!), even if it's not very winterly, but for me they are slowly walking away...very quiet.

I don't know if you remember this painting, I made this one before I started to make the big drawings. This one is from 2011. This painting is my submission for a open call for an exhibition about self-portraits. The intention for this competion is to start a discussion about art. The organisation will take a closer look to the art-works of those people who have a discussion going on about their work. These works will make it to the exhibition...
