artist's secret

Here's a little secret about how I create the backgrounds in my paintings: I use these old-fashioned, white curtains as a stencil. (look at the background of the painting in the post below). Meanwhile I have a big collection of curtains. Everytime I'm at a market I see if I can find some more....it's like a addiction.
And two days ago I thought that my curtains in the kitchen are realy boring and that I should change them. So why not some of my old-fashioned curtains? I airbrushed them to change the colour, some red and purple for christmas and in the spring I paint some curtains green en yellow!

frozen in the headlights

One of my older paintings (I think I painted it somewhere in May of this year, but for me that is already old...), which I still like. Although they are together, they look sad and allone...

one more or one less

My paintings are slowly taking over my home! The last paintings I did are now in the quest-room, so if someone wants to sleep over I first have to move my work...

it's quite a slow disaster

This painting I gave up... This also happens to artists and to art-works, but you normaly don't see the failures. It's now laying in my loft. Maybe I will use it someday, but only as a background or to sketch on it. My loft is getting pretty full. I use it as a storage for my work and my experiments.

drip drop teardrop

Working at this painting I realised that I want to paint "brighter/lighter". Much more white in the background and the figures not that heavy in colour. I normaly airbrush the background and I now found out that you can do great things by using the spray colour as paint! Spray colour is so highly concentrated that it has a great effect and by using water it's gone in a minute. The only problem is that they are so expensive... But I haven't found a paint yet that has the same effect. The next painting will be an experiment.

Hansel & Gretel never made it home

Another "rabbit" painting.
I find Fairy Tales actually a bit scary and what kind of parend send their kids into the forest?
The photographer Dina Goldstein made a project (Fallen Princesses) about what happens after the happy ever after...:

"Fallen Princesses place Fairy Tale characters in modern day scenarios. In all of the images the Princess is placed in an environment that articulates het conflict. The “happily ever after” is replaced with realistic outcome and addresses current issues."
